[Remote] Engineering Manager

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Symetra is a national financial services company dedicated to helping people achieve their financial goals. The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering delivery of the enterprise Login & Identity platform, managing two development teams and collaborating with the Product Manager to deliver secure, scalable authentication and identity solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop two Login & Identity engineering teams
• Drive delivery of authentication, authorization, SSO, MFA, and identity lifecycle capabilities
• Partner with the Product Manager for Login & Identity to translate roadmap and business outcomes into executable delivery plans
• Manage multiple concurrent initiatives, balancing feature delivery, platform stability, security, and technical debt
• Ensure solutions meet Symetra’s security, privacy, resiliency, and compliance standards
• Collaborate with Security, Architecture, Infrastructure, and Business partners across Symetra
• Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs to stakeholders and leadership

Skills

• High School Diploma is required; a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field preferred
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years of direct experience managing people and teams
• You have a proven ability to lead multiple teams and manage concurrent initiatives in a fast-moving environment
• You hold deep expertise in identity and access management, including OAuth/OIDC, SAML, SSO, and MFA, and have direct experience with Customer Identity Access Management
• You're experienced in delivering secure, highly available platforms across cloud or hybrid environments
• You've worked in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries, bringing an understanding of the standards required
• You're familiar with enterprise IAM platforms and how they support scalable identity ecosystems
• You naturally collaborate with Product, Business, and cross-functional partners, building strong relationships that drive outcomes
• Some minimal annual travel required (for people manager roles only)
• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
